Happy Halloween and Thanksgiving!
November 22, 2018
This past month we celebrated a couple of traditional American
holidays with our English Clubs!
Halloween
First, in the end of October we had several Halloween
parties for the teenagers and young children. We invited them to show up in
costumes and celebrate with us!
For the children’s club on Saturdays we played many games
such as Bobbing for Apples, Egg and Spoon Race, the Mummy game and of course,
Trick or Treat! They children ran in the library halls and rooms and the
librarians gave them candy! It was an amazing and fun event and the children
were very energetic and happy!
For the teenagers, we also played games, and had fun making
up scary stories in English. Many of the students dressed up in scary costumes,
and we had a costume contest to see which student had the best looking costume!
We ate delicious pizza and we were laughing so much because everyone was making
funny jokes!
Thanksgiving
We also celebrated an important American Holiday in the
American Corner. Thanksgiving is celebrated by many families in the United
States. It is a time when we invite friends and family to sit with us to eat a
nice feast (with the Thanksgiving Turkey, of course), and be thankful for the
things we have in our lives.
For the teenagers, we cooked the traditional Thanksgiving
foods and shared a meal with them. We played a trivia game and also drew hand
turkeys and shared with each other what we are thankful for in our lives.
For the children, we learned important words such as
parents, love, life, pet animals, and other things that they believe are the
most important things in their lives, and we drew hand turkeys together!
We are so happy to share our culture with the teenagers and children
of Moldova, and we too have learned so much from their culture! We may be
different people and have different languages, but the things that are most
important in life: family, friends, love, life, pet dogs and cats – these things
are important for every person wherever in the world, and these things that we
are most thankful for, connects us all together J
